Examples of use (automotive)

GST hard chrome-plating of piston shafts,
for instance in shock absorbers

Partial surface treatment of piston shafts to protect against wear: plating in closed system using GST (Gramm Selective Technology) with high accuracy and savings in chemicals.

  • Uniform layer thickness over whole coated area
  • Coating systems possible, e.g. Ni-Cr or Cr-Cr
  • Lower costs than with conventional chrome plating
  • Suitable for mass production: > 20,000 items per day
  • Change of item possible while manufacture continues
  • GST plant design goes back 15 years
  • Plant requires approx. 1/10 of the space of conventional plating equipment
  • Plating process can be integrated into manufacturing flow
  • High safety level for workers and plant (vacuum design and closed cycles)
  • Closed system avoids open baths and need for extractors/waste management
